After months away from the car, Richard and Shaun made their FIRC comeback at the ORC Rally, kicking off the season in style. Despite limited seat time and a gap since working with pace notes, their preparation was meticulous. Rain tyres were the choice for the damp opening stages, and apart from a minor overshoot, the updated C3 Rally2 ran faultlessly. A switch to medium tyres for the later stages brought a smooth and composed drive. The result: a spot on the top step of the podium and a solid top 10 overall finish — a strong start to the campaign.
Next up: Rally Wervik.
Na maanden zonder rallyactie maakten Richard en Shaun hun rentree in de FIRC tijdens de ORC Rally, het eerste evenement van het seizoen. Ondanks een gebrek aan zittijd en recente ervaring met temponotities, was de voorbereiding tot in de puntjes geregeld. De regenachtige openingsronde werd aangepakt met regenbanden en, op een kleine overshoot na, liep de vernieuwde C3 Rally2 als een klok. In de latere etappes werd gekozen voor medium banden, wat resulteerde in een vlotte en beheerste rit. Het duo pakte de hoogste trede van het podium en een sterke top 10-notering – een uitstekende start van hun campagne.
Volgende halte: Rally van Wervik.

After kicking off their season at the Rallye Salamandre, Scott and Bill continued their FIRC campaign in the ORC Rally. Their tyre choices proved spot-on time and again, and the Peugeot 106 delivered steady performances without any major hiccups. The special stages suited the car perfectly, making for an enjoyable and trouble-free event from start to finish.
Na hun seizoensstart in de Rallye Salamandre zetten Scott en Bill hun FIRC-campagne voort in de ORC Rally. De bandenkeuzes bleken telkens de juiste, en de Peugeot 106 leverde stabiele prestaties zonder noemenswaardige problemen. De klassementsproeven lagen de wagen uitstekend, wat zorgde voor een aangenaam en probleemloos evenement van begin tot eind.

For Marc, this was his debut as a co-driver, and the duo approached the opening stage with caution. The slippery conditions on SS1 and SS2 posed an extra challenge, but they still managed to finish within the top 25. Gaining confidence after switching to slicks, they pushed towards the top 15. Unfortunately, a gearbox failure after SS7 brought their rally to an early end.

Voor Marc was dit zijn debuut als bijrijder, en het duo begon dan ook voorzichtig aan de openingsproef. De gladde omstandigheden op KP1 en KP2 vormden een extra uitdaging, maar ze wisten toch binnen de top 25 te eindigen. Met meer vertrouwen na de overstap op slicks schoven ze op richting de top 15. Helaas maakte een defecte versnellingsbak na KP7 vroegtijdig een einde aan hun rally.

No issues for Les and Keith in their classic Mini Cooper S! The canal stage proved tough with deep ruts, and the gravel section became increasingly rough after car traffic — not quite the usual smooth Belgian tarmac. Nevertheless, everything was well organised as always, and the hospitality from the host team was once again excellent. Long-time FIRC competitors, they’re now looking forward to their next challenge at the Rally van Wervik.

Les en Keith kenden een probleemloze wedstrijd in hun klassieke Mini Cooper S. De etappe langs het kanaal was zwaar door diepe geulen, en het grindstuk werd na verloop van tijd behoorlijk ruw – wat afwijkt van de typische Belgische asfaltproeven. Toch was de organisatie zoals steeds prima in orde, en de gastvrijheid van het team hartverwarmend. Als trouwe FIRC-deelnemers kijken ze nu al uit naar hun volgende uitdaging: de Rally van Wervik.

After a DNF at Salamandre, the second round of the FIRC at the ORC Rally went virtually trouble-free. We stayed on wets a bit too long, and it took me some time to find my rhythm. I was initially concerned we were going too slowly, but it felt safe—and that approach proved to be the right one, as many of our competitors in class had incidents.
Thanks to our cautious strategy, we finished 2nd Youngtimer, 2nd in class, and took the win in the FIRC Historic category. Unfortunately, we clipped the final chicane of the rally, damaging the left front wheel. We had to complete the last 600 meters of the stage and the road section with the wheel rubbing against the bodywork and unable to steer left.

Na een opgave in de Salamandre Rally verliep de tweede ronde van het FIRC tijdens de ORC Rally vrijwel probleemloos. We bleven iets te lang op regenbanden rijden en het kostte wat tijd om in het juiste ritme te komen. Aanvankelijk voelde het tempo wat traag aan, maar achteraf bleek dat precies de juiste keuze: veel van onze klassegenoten maakten fouten.
Dankzij die behouden aanpak eindigden we als 2e Youngtimer, 2e in onze klasse en winnaar van de FIRC Historic-categorie. In de laatste chicane raakten we helaas een obstakel, waardoor het linker voorwiel beschadigd raakte. De laatste 600 meter van de proef én het verbindingsstuk legden we af met het wiel tegen de carrosserie schurend – sturen naar links was niet meer mogelijk.
